Rape Advocacy, Counseling, and Education Services (RACES) is offering an activity-based youth workshop series each Saturday in April (April 5, 12, 19, and 26), from 2-4:30pm. This workshop series is for youth aged 13-18 or enrolled in high school. It is free, and snacks will be provided. This workshop is for any youth who wants to learn how to be a good friend and engage in community service.
Please check out the attached flier, which includes a link to a 5-minute informational video (you can also see the video here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NucobBKfOpHCXch_x_uPU2Pg4tLZL9_Y?usp=drive_link).
Youth can attend as many workshops as they'd like; youth who attend all 4 workshops will receive a Youth Leadership and Engagement Certificate that they can include on their resumes.
The purposes are to increase:
- Understanding of the root causes and subsequent consequences of sexual violence, at individual (e.g., mental health concerns) and community (e.g., social support, norms, safety) levels
- Identification of own emotions and thoughts regarding sexual violence (e.g., prevalence, causes, consequences)
- Identification and use of coping skills when confronting sexual violence (e.g., in news, with fellow youth), including intrapersonal (e.g., deep breathing, relaxation) and interpersonal (e.g., sharing emotions, activism/advocacy) coping skills
- Identification and use of survivor support skills at individual (e.g., supportive listening, referral to relevant resources) and community (e.g., activism, advocacy) levels
-
Confidence in engaging in support and prevention interventions (e.g., activism, advocacy, community education)
One exciting part of this workshop series is that we will create a zine. Youth are invited and not required to contribute to the zine throughout the series. Zines will be distributed throughout the community (e.g., coffee shops, local businesses) and virtually (e.g., on our website and social media).
Could you share information, including this flier, with youth at your [school/nonprofit/etc.]?
