Urbana, IL — The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC) invites media and the community to a ribbon cutting on Wednesday January 22nd at 1pm to celebrate the completion of a ramp that, for the first time, provides access to the lower level. Completed in December of 2024, the ramp is located on the north side on Elm Street. The completion of the ramp now provides access to nearly half of the UCIMC’s programs, including Urbana Makerspace and UC Books to Prisoners and other lower level tenants including the Bike Project and artist studios. The ribbon cutting will be held at the UCIMC at 202 S Broadway at the location of the ramp on the north side of the building. This will be followed by cookies and tea inside the IMC’s venue.

The project would not have been possible without support from Representative Carol Ammons of District 103 and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Additional grant support was provided by the City of Urbana American Rescue Plan Fund and a capital improvement grant from the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois. More than forty community members donated to make the project possible and architectural services were provided in-kind by Andrew Fell Associates. Construction was completed by Mid-Illinois Concrete.
