The IMC is joining arts organizations across the country on October 2nd and 3rd for Fall of Freedom, the third coordinated weekend of action "to unite in defiance of authoritarian forces sweeping the nation."

On Friday night at 7pm IMC is honored to host an original, member-produced show by an immigrant artist called "Poems of Defiance and Cats: An Ensemble Reading." On Saturday, October 3rd at 2pm IMC will facilitate a discussion in the world cafe format on cultural strategy in the fight against fascism.

These events will not be recorded and no photographs will be taken for the safety of all participants.

More about the events . . .

Poems of Defiance and Cats: An Ensemble Reading - Cruelty has become law, empathy is now disdained and called "toxic" and "female" - as if an insult. Kindness has, therefore, become Defiance. Our path of healing then has to begin with . . . stories. Our stories connect us to one another in care - and we shall tell you some of ours. These range from matters of urgency to matters of whimsy. Because joy must be the fuel of our defiance. Which is also where cats come in . . .

Cultural Strategy to Fight Fascism - IMC will collaborate with local artists and activists to hold a discussion on something that is a key component in the fight against fascism. While it sometimes feels like the rise of fascism is an inevitability, trends come along that assert the cultural power of the people to express joy, celebrate love, and refuse Trump's agenda: think Bad Bunny, Heated Rivalry, or artists refusing to perform at the Kennedy Center. How are we building cultural power locally?

We'll have two breakout discussions in small groups with room for participants to suggest their own discussion topics (this is the World Cafe format). So bring your ideas and bring your friends!
