Nov. 2: Medical Cannabis Day, 7-8pm Room 209 Illini Union
Medical Cannabis Day
Thurs, November 2, 2006
7-8pm Room 209 Illini Union (Green St on campus): Julie Falco
9pm-1am Cowboy Monkey (downtown Champaign): Benefit show
Julie Falco, a multiple sclerosis patient for the past eighteen years, will speak about her experiences as a medical cannabis patient and the reactions (negative and positive) she has received from political officials. She has testified in hearings across the nation on this subject, including in Illinois. She will also speak about the primary and side effects that medical cannabis has had on her compared to other drugs she has used.
The talk will be supplemented with a screening of part of the documentary "Waiting to Inhale: Marijuana, Medicine, and the Law," a history of medical cannabis laws and dispensaries across the nation. This event is particularly timely in light of the medical cannabis bill currently in the Illinois Senate. Twelve states have already legalized medical cannabis, but it remains illegal on the federal level.
After the talk, the benefit show at Cowboy Monkey will feature prominent Champaign bands Eclectic Theory, Trailer Park Moses ( www.myspace.com/trailerparkmoses), and Quad Remedy. Admission will be $5 per person. For those who attend the Julie Falco event will recieve a $3 discounted admision coupon for the benefit show. Proceeds will be divided between UIUC SSDP and the Julie Falco Fund.
If you have any questions e-mail me at ptodoro2@uiuc.edu. I will respond promptly as I realize time is limited.
Thank you for your time and I hope you will find some more on Thursday to attend these events.
Sincerely,
Plamena Todorova
