"Rescue Vehicle"?

Not sure if this is new, but I snapped a picture when I was out cruising Sunday evening about the time the big SWAT team exercise broke up at the county courthouse. When I see it, I don't get the feeling it's on its way to rescue anyone. And who'd want to get within 500 feet of this thing? Maybe it's Chief Finney's way to get to and from his "difficult" press conferences, where real reporters might ask difficult questions? Note that an unplated Chevy van is parked next to the "Rescue Vehicle". Isn't driving without plates just a wee illegal? Maybe the "rescus team" pulled it over and they all went inside for a chat over a margarita or two to decide whether or not it was really a ticketable violation in Urbana?

Well, considering a large

Well, considering a large number of SWAT assignments involve hostages of some sort, I think it's an accurate name. The SWAT team will show up because someone barricaded himself inside with a shotgun to the head of his child - I'd say they're rescuing the child. And SWAT's ROE aren't like the military - they try not to shoot suspects. Now, if they started patrolling in this vehicle, I'd have a serious problem with the department.

SWAT Team or Racist Death Squad?

In fact, from my FOIA requests, I have found that 9 out of 10 SWAT Raids are conducted on African American households. What is the function of a SWAT Team? To proctect the homeland? These trucks have been funded via homeland security grants. Or are they organized for other purposes?

Percentages

Since you're so into percentages now, then tell us. How many of these "death squads" were deployed to places where the people inside weren't armed, and weren't engaged in illegal activities?

Wouldn't a "Rescue Vehicle" Look Like...

More like an ambulance or firetruck? And why all the gunports on a "rescue vehicle"? Looks more like going to war than anything else. Perfect for the "us vs. them" mentality of CPD.

Give me a break!

You should remember your comment, when some nut job with a gun goes nutty in your neighborhood or at a school, or any location for that matter, and god forbid a bullet, hits your loved one, so now they are lying in the yard or street bleeding. And since there is still a active shooter at the location and your coward self will be standing there screaming for someone to do something, most likely you will be askeing those racist police officers to do something. I can promise the fire truck and ambulance won't be driving up and "rescuing" anyone in their unarmored vehicle. It will be the armored police "rescue" vehicle that will be pulling them to safety.

Just a little update on this

Just a little update on this vehicle: as mentioned previously, it's a regional vehicle that's stored and primarily used/operated by the CPD. It was in Arcola during the hostage situation, where it certainly helped in a rescue situation.
