Come to a public forum on Friday, May 11 at 6 p.m. held by Champaign-Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice to hear about the campaign to stop the building of a new $20 million jail. The event will take place at the Urbana City Council Chambers, 400 S. Vine St.
The speakers will be Carol Ammons, County Board member and CUCPJ member, and a representative from Decarcerate Monroe County, a group from Bloomington, Indiana which successfully campaigned against a similar proposal in their county.

Thank you CUCPJ
Thanks to Champaign-Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice for hosting this needed forum. You guys are about the only group in town who is willing to stand up for the community. Too bad the NAACP, the ACLU, and CCAP have long sold out to the powers that be. Hopefully, the sleeping citizens will wake up to their tax dollars about to be thrown to the construction companies, the incarceration investors, the jail builders and designers, and the little people whose career it is to profit off others' misery.
I agree
CU Citizens is doing great work. Why other organizations don't get involved is a mystery. Where is our black churches about this? We know who they are building this jail for....
