Join the Graduate Employees' Organization, the Campus Labor Coalition, and the Undergraduate-Graduate Alliance (with representatives from La Colectiva, the GEO, Amnesty International, the International Socialist Organization, the Campus Anti-War Network, and other groups), and the Campus Faculty Association for a rally participating in the March 4th National Day of Action to Defend Public Higher Education (http://www.defendeducation.org and http://www.defendcapubliceducation.wordpress.com).
We will be rallying for a truly accessible UIUC that can achieve its mandated mission to provide public education. Help resist the growing trend in Champaign and around the United States toward the privatization of the public university, and demand that public in Illinois mean accountability for maintaining an institution that is accessible to all regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class.
The UIUC administration is using claims of an insurmountable budget shortfall to justify:
- Undermining true public access to UIUC by increasing tuition and fees.
- Undermining instruction and research by pressuring departments to adopt larger class sizes and have fewer graduate employees
- Pushing the cost burden of the current shortfall down to personnel and students
Say NO to larger class sizes, fewer grad employees, bloated and non-transparent administrative units, and tuition and fee hikes.
