Kiwane Carrington Press Conference Video

Kiwane Carrington press conference.

Location: UC-IMC

Date: Monday, October 9, 2009. 10:00am.

ON VINE STREET

Just a Black Boy,
Not going to amount to nothing,
Mother dead,
Father God knows where,
Just a Black Boy,
Thought he was home,
Thought he was safe,
Lying there,
Life pumping,
Out the hole in his chest,
Just a Black Boy,
Rocked in the bosom of Abraham,
Don't count for nothing,
On Vine Street.

HOW COULD SOMEONE KILL ANYBODY HE WAS ONLY 15 YRS OLD ND NOW HIS LIFE IS GONE I THINK THAT THE OFFICER THAT DID IT SHOULD FEEL REALLY REALLY SORRY HE WAS ONLY 15 YEARS OLD AND HE DIDNT EVEN LIVE HIS LIFE LONG AND YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE  AND ♥KIWANE♥ DIDNT EVEN GET TO LIVE THAT LONG I FEEL SORRY FOR THE FAMILY CAUSE THEY LOST  A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG MAN

Kiwane Carrington. I teenager

Kiwane Carrington. I teenager we all came to love. He was someone special to all of us. Why kill him without any informative knowledge of a break and entery. God bless you Kiwane and your Mother. May both of you rest in peace together.

False termination has occurred. Police needs to be sent to a sentence for murdering a non harmed teenager for no purpose. Why not mace him? Why shoot him?. That's a question we all want to know. How can one not ask questions about a citizen living in the house but instead shooting him. Do something to the person who shot him. Love you Kiwane. Always and forever. See you soon pooh bear. Life is short for everybody.

Sincerely, Dani Maree Townsend

Kudos and Condolences

Thank you for your coverage of this tragedy and its aftermath. While I often disagree with folks here, this site has brought far more information to light and faster than the local media in general, not to mention a perspective that isn't generally given a significant voice in those media outlets.

I'd also like to state my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of this young man who is tragically no longer with us. Nobody should have to deal with the lost life of someone so young.

GOD bless u

and thank you.

Questions

1.  Who called the police initially and why can't the tape of the call be made public?

2.  Did the police tear down the door to gain entry to the house?  And if so, why isn't that reported in the news-gazette.

3.  Were the police officers injuries from breaking down the door and not from any "scuffle?"

4.  Can IMC get pictures of the condition of the house after the incident?

I'll reserve judgment on this but IMHO the police do not do themselves any favors by limiting information.  And I am gld they released the name of the offier involved.

Indymedia

Yes, many do not understand Independent Media until something like this happens.

The mainstream media is controlled by corporate interest who don't care about community interest. We can get the word out about our issues via Independent Media. That's how I found out about this story.

The police are causing harm in our communities. The police are not bringing anything but death, drama and discrimation to our communities. Something is terribly wrong when we have incidents that should not end in death, endng in loss of life.

Are we tired of this? Yes. So, what can we do to raise awareness of the issue of police aggression against ppl of color? How can we stop police aggression in a country that views black life as expendable? Police aggression is simply a continuation of abuses perpetuated against ppl of color in a white supremacist country.

Peace

Give Kiwane a Future: do something about his death! Kiwane's future is our actions- listen to each other, act thoughtfully, and do what YOU can towards NO MORE STOLEN LIVES.

Listen up: Bring a card or note of remembrance of Kiwane to the IMC for the Dec 12 art show, KIWANE's Future: Art and Performance Honoring Kiwane at the IMC . Bring a drawing or other art for the show-call the IMC.

Opportunity to have your say:

What would you like to hear Chief Finney say?

What would you like to hear Ofcr. Norbitt say?

Kiwane was lost to us at age 15. What's something you would have missed if you hadn't lived past age 15?

Write your thoughts here for presentation to the CU City Council and CPD.

Come to KIWANE's Future: Art and Performance Honoring Kiwane at the IMC on Sat Dec 12, 7-9 for open mic, Speak Out and see the responses and the art displayed in honor of Kiwane's memory.

Sincerely,

Christina Nordholm

1. Who called the police initially and why...

In Iowa City, when Eric Shaw was murder in cold blood by a policeman, the police fought tooth and nail to keep the 911 tape secret as part of an ongoing investigation.

By the time the court battle to release the tapes was won, the DA had already decide not to prosecute.

Had they been available, he may have been forced to do otherwise - beacuse it was another policeman, operating undercover, down the strret from the incident who made the call.

The call was simple - "Eric has hos door open.

It was an assasination - the parents won a million dollar judgement and left town.
