IMC Film Festival This Weekend

The Third Annual Film Festival features local film and video by local artists. Come out to catch this year's festival to catch films like Revolting by Mike Boedicker, This is My Journey by Kate Brickman, Imperial Tourism by David Gracon, and Once Upon a Time in 1972 by Chris Lukeman. Friday night is documentary and will feature a film and discussion hosted by Aaron Ammons on the topic of felony convictions. All events are free to the public, thanks to the help of a grant from the Urbana Public Arts Commission.

Star Worlds: A Pocket Full of Tokens and I'm Heading to the Arcade by Andrew McLaughlin

Documentary filmmakers chronicle the story of Patrick O'Malley's Star Worlds Arcade in DeKalb, Illinois from its inception in 1985 to present day; meeting the community along the way.

Imperial Tourism by David Gracon                                             

An experimental documentary exploring the implications of cultural representation, globalization and language in contemporary Poland.

It's all Hearsay by Tyson Kroening/Matt McKay            

Mini documentary follows the band "The Hearsay" and the music scene in Charleston.

7 pm      Enough is Enough: Locked Up…. Locked Out  by All of Us or None 

Join us for the screening of these two documentaries made by the group All of Us or None. We will learn how felony convictions continue to shackle those who have individuals even after they have paid their debt to society. A discussion will be held afterwards with Aaron Ammons. We recommend that those who have felony convictions attend.

8 pm   The More Things Stay The Same  by Marc Moscato

The More Things Stay The Same examines the life and world of Dr. Ben Reitman (1879-1942), known in his day as “the Clap Doctor”, “King of the Hoboes” and “the most vulgar man in America”. It forms an endearing portrait of Reitman’s colorful life, and investigates the cultural and social context of his times.

2 - 3 pm                     Beginner’s Filmmaking Panel and Workshop

From 2 – 3 pm there will be a free beginners filmmaking workshop and panel discussion. Filmmakers of all ages and levels of experience are invited to attend this free program, ask questions to professional local filmmakers, and get some hands on experience working with basic camera setups.

"This is My Journey" explores the emotional aspects of transitioning for three transgender people living in Central Illinois. Dana, Shayla, and Cris open up their lives to show how their everyday struggles as so strikingly similar, yet so different, from those of the everyday person.
